Religious Education

At St Wilfrid’s, following Jesus is at the centre of everything we do.

We follow our Golden Rules, signposts on our journey to be more like Jesus. They are displayed in each class and are reinforced in Acts of Worship and within class.

Our Creative RE Curriculum allows the children to explore key questions of life from the Christian tradition and other major traditions (Attainment Target 1- learning about Religion) and how to put what they’ve learnt into practice (Attainment Target 2 – learning from Religion). They are then in a position to make links, question and give personal responses.

Worship takes many forms at St. Wilfrid’s, with Morning Prayers, Lunchtime Grace and Afternoon Prayers, Whole School Collective Worship and intimate Class Acts of Worship, some Teacher-led and others child-led. For special occasions, the School Orchestra plays for the hymns, and parents are very welcome. Sometimes, members of the Orchestra join with the Parish Musicians at St. Wilfrid’s Church, and in 2015 they were part of a larger group of school children that provided the music for the biannual Mass for St. Benedict at Fountains Abbey.

We have a special working relationship with our Parish Priest, Fr. Philip, and the whole school attend Mass at least once a term, with individual classes taking part in the Parish Mass each term. Fr. Philip comes in to school for Mass and special occasions, and to help the children in their RE lessons.
